He was driven from his see in 685 1^, and 685 CuDBERCT, or, as he is more commonly called, St.Cuth- BERT, became bishop of Lindisfarne, and was conse- crated at York on Easter Sunday, 26th March 685l^ by Theodore archbishop of Canterbury. He resigned his see in 687 1^, and 688 Eadberct17 became bishop of Lindisfarne in 688 1^. He died 6th March 698 ^ 9, and was buried at Lindis- farne ^0. 698 Eatferth^i succeeded in 698^2^ and died in yiji^a. His successor was 12 He also held the see of Hex- ham, formed at the same time, until the year 680, when Tun- berht became bishop of Hexham. Beda, hb. iv. c. 12. et Turgot, lib. i. c. 9. The following were bishops of Hexham from the first establishment of the see there un- til its union with Lindisfarne : Eata,Tunberht orTrumbert, Eata John, Wilfred, Acca,Friothuberht or Fruidbert, Alhmund or Alc- mund, Tilberht, Aethelberht, Heardred, Eanberht or Hean- berht, and Tidferth or Tilfred or 'lliiffrid.
