Robert Mason, LL.D., held it in 148 1, and died pos- sessed of it in 1493, and was buried in the cathedral of Lincoln, of which he was likewise precentor. Ralph Scrope was instituted 23rd Feb. 1493 '^9. He died in 1516. Robert Davell or Dovell possessed this dignity in 1518, and held it at his death in 1557. William Carter was collated to this dignity 3rd Nov. 1558, and was deprived in 1560. William King was presented by queen Ehzabeth to this archdeaconry ist Jan. 1560-6120; he resigned it in 1566. Ralph Lever was collated 21st Aug. 1566, on King's resignation. Francis Bunney was collated 20th Feb. 1573-4 : he resigned in 1578. James Bold, collated 25th Sept. 1578 : he resigned in 1581. Ralph Tonstall, collated 29th Oct. 158 1. He died in March 1618—19. William Morton, collated 24th Oct. 1599. John Cradock, collated 13th April 1604; he resigned it in 1619. Gabriel Clark, collated 7th Aug. 1619. He resigned this archdeaconry and was afterwards appointed to that of Durham. Francis Blrgoyne, collated 13th Sept. 1621, and died in 1633.
