326 SODOR AND MAN. but there is not sufficient evidence extant of such a fact. He was archbishop of Dublin in 139 1, and appears to have been translated thither from Avi in Gascony. He was bishop of Chichester in 1395, and promoted thence to York. Richard Pully held this see in 1429. John Grene, alias Sprotton, occurs as bishop here in 1448 and 1454. Thomas Burton died possessed of it in March 1457-8. His will is dated i8th Feb. in that year. 1458 Thomas III was elected bishop here 21st June 1458, on the death of Thomas Burton. He was abbot of Vale Royal in Cheshire. He died in 1480. 1 48 1 Richard Oldham, ahhot of Chester^ wsls promoted to this see in 1481. He died 19th Sept. i486. 1487 Huan Blackleach, alias Huan Hesketh, was conse- crated in 1487. He died in 1509-10. 1510 Thomas Stanley succeeded bishop Blackleach in 1510. He was deprived in 1545. 1545 Robert Ferraras was a subscribing witness to a deed in 1545 ; he was afterwards preferred to the see of St. David's. There is however some doubt whether he was ever consecrated to this see, as he was conse- crated on being made bishop of St. David's. 1546 Henry Man, dean of Chester^ had the royal assent to his nomination to this bishopric 22nd Jan. 1546^^, and was consecrated by Paul Bushe first bishop of Bristol.
