DEANS. 375 Anthony Maxey, S.T.P., was appointed by patent 2ist June 1612, vice Giles Thompson ^J : installed 25th June. He died 3rd May 1618^'^, and was buried in the church of St. Martin in the Fields, Westminster. Marcus Antonius de J^omiihis, formerly/ archbishop of Spalatro, had the deanery granted to him 13th May 1 61 8 33: he was installed dean of this chapel i8th May, on the death of Anthony Maxey. He quitted it and left the nation in 1622. Henry Beaumont, S.T.P., dea7i of Peterborough^ was removed to this deanery by patent dated loth April 1622, on the resignation of the archbishop of Spalatro^^: he was installed i8th May. He died 30th July 1627, and was buried by the right side of his predecessor, Thomas Danette. Matthew Wren, S.T.P., was appointed by patent on the 8th, installed 24th July^^, and sworn registrar of the Order of the Garter 23rd Sept. 1628. Bishop of Hereford in 1635. Christopher Wren, S.T.B., younger brother to his pre- decessor, was appointed by patent 31st March 163536^ installed 4th April, and constituted registrar of the Garter on the 22nd of the same month. He died at Blechingdon in Oxfordshire 29th May 1658, and was buried in the chancel of that church. He was the father of the celebrated architect of the same name. Edward Hyde, S.T.P., had this dignity conferred on him by king Charles the Second, then in exile : letters patent dated in July 1658. He died at Salisbury a little before the Restoration, having never been in- stalled in this deanery. Hiu'No llyvKs, S. T.
