The capture of the Vénus was the turning point in the scale. Thenceforward the favours of fortune were showered exclusively on the British. Shortly after that event there arrived at St. Denis the frigate Nisus, bearing the flag of Vice-Admiral Bertie, the precursor of a fleet and army on their way from England viâ the Cape of Good Hope, ordered to co-operate with the troops taken from the three presidencies, and which had started from India about the same time, to effect the reduction of the Isle of France.
