A Famous Game Described by Quotations From M. Pickwick

Some devotees of chess, familiar, as it happened, with the sayings of the immortal Pickwick and his friends, found that in the remarks of the club there were apt comments on the various moves of the monumental struggle over the chess board between Anderssen and Kieseritsky. Here they are:

WHITE—ANDERSSEN, BLACK—KIESERITZKY.

  1. P—K 4—"Only to start the game."—Mr. Wardle.
    P—K 4—"Same to you, my boy."—Mr. Wardle.
  2. P—K B 4-"Fire away, sir."-Sam Weller.
