Woe! Woe! Woe!

Xerxes.

And whence ye came with footstep slow
And cry of wail and weeping go.

Chorus.

Woe! Woe! Woe!

Xerxes.

Through all the city let your voice be sent!

Chorus.

Through all the city one lament.

Xerxes.

Groan, ye who did so delicately tread!
