I have accepted Mr. Hume's. estimate of the cost of cultivating the. cane and manufacturing the sugarcane, as I can get no accurate informa- tion as to the exact detailed cost. The leaves of the cane are never sold. I have given the cost of the most expensive cultivation of sugarcane, which necessitates the land being fallowed for a year previous to sowing; hence I have charged two years' rent.
