Of the detailed percentage, it appears that the Sombansi is the most numcrous; then the Bachgoti, the Bais, the Kanhpuria, and the Bisen ; but the absence of detail in the whole, of course, renders any calculation based on the above fractional data very liable to considerable The Bais of this district are not the Tilokchandi Bais of Baiswara, but come of an inferior stock, and go by the name of Kath bais. They are of course not recognized by the former. At the same time I entirely concur in Mr. Carnegy's argument, that the Bais have but little to boast of in comparison with other Rajput tribes, as regards either antiquity or purity of religion and descent. After these, the holdings of the remaining Rajput tribes are comparatively insignificant, and call for no special remarks. Vaishyas. - The Vaishyas represent the Banián or chief trading class of the district. The Agarwala is rarely met with; the Baranwala more frequently.
