HERMES PLAYING WITH THE CHILD DIONYSUS The uplifted right hand (now broken off) of the god probably held a bunch of grapes, with which he was amusing the child. This wonderful work was wrought by the sculptor Praxiteles and is one of the few original works of the greatest Greek sculptors found in Greece. Nearly all such Greek originals have perished, and we know them only in ancient Roman copies found in Italy. This great work was dug out at Olympia
