Mr Ernst Hartert Zoological Museum Tring, England

Dear Mr Hartert

I arrived safely on the 30th of September but have not yet succeeded in getting our outfit out of the custom house. I however hope to be able to do so today.

I have been looking about the city somewhat and have gone into the country for some five or six miles. The prospects I believe are good for birds in this immediate neighbourhood probably also for lepidoptera. There are no electric lights and only a few very dingy oil lamps on odd corners. But I have in my outfit an acetalin gas lamp (and carbide) for a strong light.

Your letter of Aug 30 with first installment of the Budapest list of B(illegible text) birds is received. It will prove much to me.
