1. Đā nam Pilatus þone Hǣlend, and swang hyne.[1]

2. And þā þēnas wundon þyrnenne cynehelm, and āsetton hyne on his hēafod, and scrȳddon hyne mid purpuran rēafe;[2]

3. and hī cōmon tō hym, and cwǣdon, Hāl bēo ðū, Iudea Cyning! and hī plætton hyne mid hyra handum.[3]

4. Đā ēode Pilatus eft ūt, and cwæð, Nū ic hyne lǣde hider ūt tō ēow, þæt gē ongyton þæt ic ne funde nānne gylt on him.[4]

5. Þā ēode sē Hælend ūt, and bær þyrnenne cynehelm and purpuran reaf. And [Pilatus] sǣde him, Hēr is mann![5]

6. Witodlīce þā þā bisceopas and ðā þegnas hine gesāwon, ðā clypodon hig and cwǣdon, Hōh hyne, hōh hyne. Đā cwæð Pilatus tō him, Nime gē hine and hōð; ic ne funde nānne gylt on him.[6]
