51. Cwyst þū dēmð ūre ǣ ǣnigne man, būton hyne man ǣr gehȳre, and wite hwæt hē dō?[1]

52. Hig andswaredon and cwǣdon tō him, Cwyst þū þæt þū sī Galileisc? Smēa, and geseoh þæt nān wītega ne cymð fram Galilea.[2]

53. And hig cyrdon ealle hām.

CAPUT VIII

Ðys godspel gebyrað ānum dæge ǣr mydfæstene.

1. Sē Hǣlend fōr on Oliuetes dūne.[3]

2. And cōm eft on dægrēd tō þām temple, and eall þæt folc cōm tō him; and hē sæt, and lǣrde hig.

3. Ða lǣddon þā Pharisei and ðā bōceras tō him ān wīf, sēo wǣs āparod on unrihthǣmede, and setton hig tōmiddes hyra,[4]

4. and cwǣdon tō him, Lārēow, þis wīf wæs āfunden on unrihtum hǣmede.[5]

5. Moyes ūs bebead on þǣre ǣ þæt wē sceoldon þus gerāde mid stānum oftorfian; hwæt cwyst þū?

6. Ðis hig cwǣdon his fandiende, þæt hig hine wrēhton. Sē Hǣlend ābēah nyþer, and wrāt mid his fingre on þǣre eorþan.
