In the Subjunctive Mood there are only two Tenses, the Present and the Past. This mood is used principally to express a wish, and also after certain conjunctions. See par. 550, &c.

Active Voice, Ordinary Form.

254. Each Tense has the following forms:—

1. The action is merely stated, as—

Buaileann Seaġán an clár,

John strikes the table.

2. The action is represented as in progress, as—

Tá Seaġán ag bualaḋ an ċláir,

John is striking the table.

3. The action as represented as about to happen—

Tá Seaġán	$\scriptstyle {\left\{{\begin{matrix}\ \\\ \end{matrix}}\right.}$	ċum ar tí	$\scriptstyle {\left.{\begin{matrix}\ \\\ \end{matrix}}\right\}\,}$	an ċláir do ḃualaḋ,
John is about (is going) to strike the table.

4. The action is represented as completed, as—

Tá Seaġán d’éis an ċláir do ḃualaḋ,

John has just struck the table.
