PREFACE TO THE THIRD EDITION.
The previous editions of "Grouse Disease: Its Causes and Remedies," having been disposed of, and the demand continuing, a Third Edition is here presented to the Public. To the care I bestowed in giving to my suggestions a thoroughly practical character may be ascribed the great favour with which the other volumes have been received by those interested in the subject.
Born and bred in the Highlands, — a sportsman from my youth, — with an intimate knowledge of grouse moors, and having necessarily associated freely with sportsmen, ornithologists, and keepers, my acquaintance with the subject of grouse disease and its causes inspires me with a lively hope that my observations may prove of service by indicating the means of remedying an evil which has long
