Dream Sorrow

DEAR heart, shed all your tears in dreams,
In Shadow Land:
One could not laugh by mystic streams
On Slumber Strand.
You'll waken with your lashes dry
For all your weeping.
How happy that you only cry
When you are sleeping.

Smile, happy lady, all the day,
We need your laughter.
Your tears shall have their chosen way
When sleep comes after:
There is a willow by the stream,
A weeping-willow,
And you shall weep in pensive dream,
On a dry pillow.
