流水雄。風不好
Lâu-tsúi li hiông, huang li m̄-móⁿ
The tide is strong, and the wind is contrary.
此隻船好駛
Chí-chiah-tsûn hó-sái
This boat sails well.
行甚猛
Kiâⁿ-méⁿ-tsãi
It goes very fast.
火船免用駛風會行
Húe-tsûn mín-ēng sái-huang õi-kiâⁿ
Steamers can go without setting sails.
下次船我就要去
Ẽ-tsūa-tsûn uá chiũ-àiⁿ-khṳ̀
I am going next trip.
直透。無往誰處
Tít-thàu, bô-kua tî-kò
I go direct without calling any where.
挺去火船邊
Theⁿ-khṳ̀ húe-tsûn-piⁿ
Row along the steamer.
我要落貨
Uá àiⁿ-hẽ-hùe
I want to ship cargo.
挺去船頭
Theⁿ-khṳ̀ tsún-thâu
Row to the fore-part of the vessel.
仔細。勿撞着火船
TSṳ-sòi, màiⁿ siàng-tiéh hńe-tsûn
Take care, don't knock against the steamer.
火長在何處
Húe-tiéⁿ tõ-tî-kò?
Where's the captain?
火長起去
Húe-tiéⁿ khí-khṳ̀
The captain has gone on shore.
伊霋時就落來
I khiã-tiām chiũ lóh--lâi
He will come on board by and bye.
火船有吹陂或未
Húe-tsûn ũ pûn-pi a-būe?
Has the steamer sounder her whistle?
吹三次了
Pûn saⁿ-ē--lō
She has whistled three times.
加壹次就要行
Ke chék-ē chiũ àiⁿ-kiâⁿ
Once more (the next time) she will start.
船頭枝桅個旗。若是升半𰉗就要行
Tsûn-thâu ki-ûi kâi kî, nāⁿ-sĩ liū pùaⁿ-kuéh chiũ àiⁿ-kiâⁿ
If the flag of the foremast is hoisted half mast high, then the steamer is going to start.
壹人跋落水底。無人去撈伊
Kâi-nâng puáh-lóh tsúi-tói, bô-nâng khṳ̀-liôu i
A man has fallen over board, and no one has gone to pick him up.
