In 18981904 he was recording secretary of the board of education of the methodist episcopal church; and since 1904 has been corresponding secretary. Since 1897 he has been a member of the board of managers of the missionary society of the methodist episcopal church He is the author of The Compulsion of Love.

Anderson, William E. J., educator, founder, college president, was born July 24, 1861, in Denver, Col. He was educated in the public and private schools of his native state; and in the colleges of

Iowa and

Illinois.

He

soon attained success educational in the world; and has been a teacher in various schools and colleges in the states of Iowa, Illinois and Colorado. In 1888 he established the Colorado state college of business chartered by the state, and now known as the Trinidad business college.

Anderson, William Henry, educator, colwas born about 1815 in Wilmington, N.C. In 1837 he graduated from the Wesleyan university. He was an eminent minister of the methodist episcopal church south. Anderson, William Marshall, archaeologist, was born Jan. 24, 1867, near Louisville, Ky. He was a great student and enthusiastic archaeologist; in 1832 went with a party of trappers to the Great salt lakes; and subsequently made a trip of exploration through Mexico. He left a valuable archaeological collection to the museum of the Ohio state university at Columbus. He died Jan. explorer,

Anderson, William Pelby, actor, manager, was born March 16, 1793, in Boston, Mass. He managed the Tremont; and built the Warren theater of Boston, Mass. He appeared in London as Hamlet and Brutus. He died May 28, 1850, in Boston, Mass. Anderson, Winslow, physician, surgeon, author, was born in 1860 in Middleboro, Mass. Since 1884 he has practiced medicine and surgery; and in 1893-97 and 1900-04 was a member of the California state board of health. In 1900-04 he was surgeon-general of

the national guard of California. He is the author of Mineral Springs and Health Resorts of California.

Andrade, Cipriano, naval officer, was born 1, 1840, in Tampico, Mexico. During the civil war he took part in various engagements; and afterward was in active service as an engineer in the navy. He took an active part in the Spanish-American war. He attained the rank of rear admiral in the United States navy; and retired from active Sept.
