Apgar, Austin Craig, educator, naturalist, author, was born Aug. 4, 1838, in Peapack, N.J. In 1862 he graduated from the New Jersey state normal school and since that time has been engaged in educational work. He has studied under Louis Agassiz and Alexander Agassiz at Penikese. He is a member of the council of education of New Jersey; and is now a professor in the New Jersey state normal school at Trenton. He is the author of Geographical Hand Book; Geographical Drawing Book; Plant Analysis; Mollusks of the Atlantic Coast; Pocket Key of Trees; Trees of the Northern United States Pocket Key of Birds; and Birds of the United States. Aplin, Henry Harrison, soldier, merchant, congressman., was born April 15, 1841, in Thetford, Mich. In 1861-65 he served in the civil war in the sixteenth regiment Michigan infantry; and attained the rank of second lieutenant. He has been a successful merchant of West Bay City, Mich.; and was postmaster in 1869-86 and again in 1898-1900. In 1886-90 he was auditor-general of the state of Michigan; and in 1894-95 was a member of the Michigan state legislature. In 1901-03 he was a representative from Michigan to the
