Atwood, David, journalist, publisher, congressman, was born Dee. 15, 1815, in Bedford, N.H. For twenty-three years he was editor and publisher of the State Journal of Madison, Wis. In 1861 he was a representative in the Wisconsin state legislature; for four years was United States assessor; and in 1868 was mayor of Madison, Wis. In 1869-71 he was a representative from Wisconsin to the forty-first congress as a republican. He died Dec. 11, 1889, in Madison, Wis. Atwood, Edwin Byron, soldier, was born
Atwood, Harrison Henry, architect, congressman, was bom Aug. 26, 1865, in North Londonderry, Vt. He studied architecture and began practice in 1886; and has erected many buildings in and about Boston. He was a member of the Massachusetts house of representatives in 1887-89; in 1889-90 he was city architect of Boston; and was a delegate to republican national conventions of 1888, 1903 and 1904. In 1895-97 he was a representative from Massachusetts to the fifty-fourth congress as a republican.
Sept. 18, 1843, in Garrettsville, Ohio. He was educated in the public and private schools; and at the academies of northern Ohio, at Farmington seminary and at Allegheny college of Meadville, Pa. He served in the civil war in the forty-first regiment Ohio infantry as sergeant, major, second-lieutenant, firstlieutenant and captain; and in 1865 was brevetteu major of volunteers for valuable and conspicuous services during the civil war. In 1866 he was appointed second-lieutenant in the sixteenth regiment United States infantry; in 1869 was transferred to the second infantry; and in 1870 to the sixth infantry. In 1872 he was promoted to first-lieutenant; in 1875 became captain and assistant quartermaster; in 1890 was made quartermaster; in 1897 was lieutenant-colonel and deputy quartermaster; and in 1900 became colonel and assistant quartermaster-general. In 1867 he was brevetted first-lieutenant for gallant and meritorious services in the battle of Murfreesboro he was brevetted captain for same at Chickamauga ; and major for same at Mission Ridge. In 1903 he became brigadier-general in the United States army; and was retired at his request after more than forty years of service. Atwood, Ethel, musician, organizer, was born Sept. 13, 1870, in Fairfield, Maine. She has attained success in orchestral work in

Atwood, George Edward, educator, author, was bom Nov. 8, 1852, in Hartford, N.Y. Since 1897 he has been principal of schools at Newburgh, N.Y. He is the author of Standard School Algebra; Grammar School Algebra; and Arithmetic by Grades, in six books.

He was editor of the Boston Universalist in 1867-72; of the Christian Leader in 1873-75 ; and has been associate editor of the latter journal since 1875. Atwood, John Harrison, lawyer, political economist, was born Sept. 13, 1860, in Phillipstown, Mass. He was educated in the public schools of Athol and Ayer, Mass. ; studied for one year in Europe; attended the academical department of Harvard university; and in 1884 graduated from the Harvard law school. Since 1885 he has been actively engaged in the practice of law in Leavenworth, Kan.; and in 1886-93 was county attorney for Leavenworth county. Since 1893 he has been a delegate to every democratic national convention. He was formerly law partner of Lucien Baker, United States senator from Kansas; and formerly also a law partner of William C. Hook, judge of the United States circuit court of appeals. In 1904-08 he was a member of the democratic national committee for Kansas. Atwood, John Warren, physician, surgeon, was born Sept. 14, 1863, in Marion, N.Y. He was educated at the Kansas normal school; and in 1888 graduated from the Jeflferson medical college of Philadelphia, Pa. Since 1888 he has been in the active practice of his profession; and since 1899 has practiced in Fishkill-on-Hudson, N.Y. He is a member of the staff of the Highland hospital at Matte awan; and a member of the school board of Fishkill Landing high school. He is a member of the New York state medical association and of the American medical association; is attending physician to several institutions; and has contributed to medical literature.
