Baker, Charles Simeon, soldier, educator, lawyer, congressman, was born Feb. 18, 1839, in Churchville, N.Y. During the first year of the civil war he served as first lieuwastenant of Company E, twenty-seventh regiment New York volunteers; and was disabled at the first battle of Bull Run. He was a member of the New York state assembly in 1879, 1880 and 1882; and was a member of the state senate in 1884-85. In 1885-91 he was a representative to the forty-ninth, fiftieth and fifty-first congresses as a republican. He died April 21, 1902, in Washington, D.C.
Baker, Charles Warrington, physician, surgeon, was born on Feb. 12, 1854, in Sedalia, Ohio. He was educated at the London high school of Ohio; and the Starling medical college of Columbus, Ohio. For a while he was an instructor in Parson's college of Fairfield, Iowa. He has attained success as one of the foremost physicians and surgeons of Iowa at Stanwood; and has been surgeon to the Chicago and Northwestern railroad. He has been president of the Cedar county medical society of Iowa; and is a member of several medical and scientific societies.
