he was sheriff of Essex county, Mass. In 1797-1801 he was a representative from Massachusetts to the fifth and sixth congresses. He died Sept. 9, 1830, in Haverhill, Mass. Bartlett, Charles Gratiot, soldier, was born about 1840 in New York. He served throughout the civil war as sergeant, captain, colonel and major; and in 1865 was brevetted brigadier-general of volunteers. In 1896 he was retired from the United States army. He died May 1, 1896, in New Brighton, N.Y. Bartlett, Charles Henry, naval officer, lawyer, state senator, was born Oct. 15, 1833, in Sunapee, N.H. He served in the New Hampshire state senate in 1883; and was made president of that body. His portrait hangs in the new library building of the state capitol. He died in 1900 in Manchester, N.H. Bartlett, Charles Lafayette, lawyer, jurist, congressman, was born Jan. 31, 1853 in Montieello, Ga. He was prosecuting attorney for the Macon judical court in 1877-81; He was a member of the house of representatives of Georgia in 1882-83 and in 1884-85 and was a member of the state senate in 1889. He was elected judge of the superior court of the Macon circuit in 1893. In 18951911 he was a representative from Georgia to the fifty-fourth, fifty-fifth, fifty-sixth, fifty-seventh, fifty-eighth, fifty-ninth, sixtieth and sixty-first congresses.
