He was a delegate to the democratic national convention at Chicago in 1896; and was most pronounced in opposition to the free silver platform. He has been four times elected president of Boonville; and in vice-president of the First national hank of that city. Bentley, Richard Clark, soldier, was born New York. In 1861 he entered the United States army from New York; and in 1865 was brevetted colonel and brigadier-general of volunteers. He died Deo. 1, 1871.

Bentley, Wilson Alwyn, musician, meteorologist, lecturer, scientist, author, was born Feb. 9, 1865, in Jericho, Vt. In 1885-86 he was an instructor of music; and since 1883 has been a student and photographer of snow crystals; and has pursued other meteorological studies. He is a member of the American association for the advancement of science. He is the author of Studies of Frost and lee Crystals; and various Monographs relating to these studies. In 1869-71 he was president of the Alliance college of Ohio. In 1871 he organized the state university of Nebraska; and became its first chancellor. In 1886-91 he was president of Butler university. He has been a professoT for nearly fifty years. Benton, Angelo Ames, clergyman, author, was born in 1837 in Crete. In 1887-94 he was professor of dogmatic theology at the university of the south. He is the author of The Church Cyclopedia; and The Tome of St. Leo. Benton, Charles S., congressman, was born in Maine.
