years of age he was appointed an associate judge of the common pleas of his native county; and in 1839 he removed to Michigan and engaged in the practice of law. Bradley, George Beckwith, lawyer, state senator, banker, jurist, was born Feb. 5, 1825, in Greene, N.Y. He attended the academy at Ithaca, N.Y., and subsequently the university of Kochester conferred upon him the degree of LL.D. In 1848 he was admitted to the bar at Oswego, N.Y. and began the practice of his profession in Corning, N. Y. In 1873-73 he was a member of the New

tional convention; and in 1874-77 was a member of the New York state senate. In 1884-97 he was justice of the supreme court of New York during that time was judge of the second division court of appeals for about two years; and in 189697 was a member of the appellate division of the supreme court. He has retired from active work; and is now vice-president of the first national bank of Corning, N.Y. Bradley, Henry Stiles, educator, clergyman, author, was born March 23, 1869, in Jackson county, Ga. In 1890 he became professor of natural sciences, and in 1899-1901 was vice-president of Emory college. In 1901-05 he was pastor of the methodist church in Atlanta, Ga. ; and since that time has been a, clergyman of St. Louis, Mo. He is the author of Christianity as Taught by Christ.

Bradley, James, soldier, clergyman, legiswas born Sept. 15, 1835, in Missouri. He served through the civil war as a private in Cockrell's brigade. He served as a member of the Missouri legislature. He is the author of a work entitled Confederate Mail Carriers, or History of the War in Missouri, Arkansas, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia and Tennessee. In 1865 he graduated from Williams college; and has received the degrees of A.M., LL.D. and Ph.D. In 1865-68 he was principal of the high school at Pittsfield, Mass.; in 1868-86 was principal of the high school at Albany, N.Y.; in 1886-93 was superintendent of Minneapolis schools; and in 1892-1900 was president of Illinois college. He is the author of Harmony and Analysis. Bradley, Lewis R., legislator, governor, was born Feb. 18, 1805, in Osage county, Va. In 1860 he was elected to the California state legislature. In 1866 he removed to Nevada; and in 1873-78 was the third governor of that state. Bradley, Luther Daniels, journalist, cartoonist, was born Sept. 29, 1853, in New Haven, Conn. He was cartoonist for the Australian Tit-Bits in 1884; and in 1888-93 was cartoonist on the Melbourne Punch. In 1894-98 he was cartoonist on the InterOcean of Chicago, 111.; and since 1899 has been cartoonist on the Chicago Daily News. Bradley, Luther Prentice, soldier, was born Dec. 8, 1822, in New Haven, Conn. He entered the volunteer army in 1861 as lieutenant-colonel in the fifty-first regiment Illinois infantry; became colonel in 1862; brigadier-general of volunteers in 1864; lieutenant-colonel United States army in 1866; colonel in 1879 and retired from active service in 1886. Bradley, Mrs. Lydia Moss, philanthropist, was born July 30, 1816, in Seitzerland county, Ind.
