Brown, William Thurston, clergyman, author, was born Oct. 20, 1861, in Medusa, N. Y. He is pastor of the Plymouth church at Rochester, N.Y. He is the author of The Real Religion of To-day.

Brown, William Wallace, soldier,- lawyer, congressman, was born April 22, 1836, in Summer Hill, N.Y. He enlisted in the union army for- a three-years' term; and served with gallantry until the close of the civil war. He was elected district attorney in 1866. He was a representative in the state legislature in 1872-76; and in 1883-87 he was a representative from Pennsylvania to the forty-eighth and forty-ninth congresses as a republican. In 1897-99 he was auditor of the war department; and in 1899 became auditor of the navy department. He died in 1900 in Bradford, Pa. Browne, Arthur Wesley, educator, scientist, was born Nov. 24, 1877, in Brooklyn, N.Y. Since 1906 he has been assistant professor of inorganic and analytical chemistry at Cornell university. He is a fellow of the American association for the advancement of science.

He was elected to both the charter and suifrage legislatures of Rhode Island; and served in 1842-52. In 1852-61 he was United States attorney for Rhode Island. In 186163 he was a representative from Rhode Island to the thirty-seventh congress. He died ill Gloucester, R.I. Browne, George Waldo, lecturer, author, poet, was born Oct. 8, 1851, in Deerfield, N. He has been president of the Florida state senate; was ex-officio lieutenant-governor of Florida in 1891; and in 1893-97 was collector of the port of Key West. Browne, John Mills, naval surgeon, was born May 10, 1831, in Hinsdale, N.H. He entered the United States navy as an assistant surgeon in 1853. In 1855-56 he participated in the Indian war on Puget sound; and later took part in the survey of the northwest boundary. He subsequently became medical inspector; then fleet surgeon; and was made surgeon-general of the navy. He died Dec.
