In 1904 he was retired with the rank of brigadier-general United States army. Byrne, James J., solaier, was born in Ireland. In 1862 he was iirst lieutenant in the one hundred and sixty-third regiment New York infantry; and in 1865 was brevetted brigadier-general of volunteers. He was killed in June, 1880, by the Indians. Byrne, John, physician, surgeon, was bom Oct. 13, 1825, in Ireland. In 1848 he came to the United States ;and has since practiced medicine in Brooklyn, N.Y. He has made a specialty of cancers; and has been invited and has operated in the French capital before large audiences composed of their leading surgeons. Tenn. Byrne, William, educator, founder, was born in 1780 in Ireland. In 1821 he opened a school in Marion county, Ky.; and then proceeded to erect St. Mary's college on Mount Mary farm. Vvnen he had made it one of the most flourishing institutions, is the state, he transferred it to the Jesuits in 1831. He died in 1833 in Kentucky. He is now a successful merchant of Savannah, Ga. Cabaniss, Henry Harrison, journalist, was born June 31, 1848, in Forsyth, Ga.; and was assistant secretary of the Georgia state senate for eighteen years. He is now proprietor of the Journal, a daily newspaper of Atlanta, Ga. ; and president of the National union, a fraternal insurance society. Cabaniss, Joseph Warren, soldier, banker, was born in 1843 in Forsyth, Ga. He served in the confederate army; was wounded at Petersburg, Va.; and captured and imprisoned until the close of the war at Elmira. He is prominent in the public affairs of Macon, Ga. and president of the Exchange bank and of the Union savings bank of that city.
