He was educated in the pviblic schools of his native state and at Canandaigua academy. He served during the civil war as first lieutenant, captain, major and lieutenant-colonel in the New York volunteers; as captain, brevet major, lieutenantcolonel and colonel in the United States volunteers; and was wounded at Antietam. He has been superintendent, i3hief engineer and manager of railroads; and is now chief engineer of the California rapid transit railroad company of San Francisco, Cal. In 1906-07 he was commander department of California and Nevada, grand army of the republic. Albert, Aristides Elphonso Peter, clergyman, physician, journalist, college president, orator, author, was born Dec. 10, 1853, in St. Charles parish. La. He graduated from the Straight university of New Orleans; from the New Orleans university; and has received the degrees of A.B., B.D., M.D. and D.D. In 1868-1902 he filled pastorates in the Louisiana conference of the methodist episcopal church; and is now a practicing physician of New Orleans, La. He was presiding elder for seven years; president of Gilbert college in 1895-1900; and trustee of the New Orleans university in 1880-1900, being president of the board in 1887-92. In 1881-92 he was editor of the Southwestern Christian

Advocate. In 1884-1900 he was a member of every general conference of the methodist episcopal church. Albert, Henry, physician, pathologist, bacteriologist, scientist, was born Oct. 11, 1878, in Waleott, Iowa. He graduated from the university of Iowa with the degrees of B.S., M.S. and M.D. and studied at the university of Vienna. He is a noted physician, pathologist and bacteriologist; and was physician to the Iowa state hospital at Independence, Iowa. He now practices his profession in Iowa City, Iowa; is now professor of pathology and bacteriology at the state university of Iowa; pathologist to the university hospital; and director of the Iowa state board of health bacteriological laboratory. He has made original researches in the bacteriology and biology of the natural waters of Iowa. Albert, John S., civil engineer, was born in 1835. He entered the navy in 1855 from New York; was appointed chief engineer in 1861; and served during the war with credit. He died July 3, 1880, in Philadelphia, Pa. Albert, William Julian, merchant, congressman, was born Aug. 4, 1816, in Baltimore, Md. He was educated at St. Mary's college. He was a merchant; and after retiring from business in 1856 was interested in

banking and manufactures. In 1873-75 he was a representative from Maryland to the forty-third congress as a republican. He died 29, 1879, in Baltimore, Md. Albertson, Charles Carroll, clergyman, author, was born Feb. 11, 1865, in Plainfield,

He has attained success in the practice of his profession in Oswego, N.Y. He has been president of the Erie county medical society; was visiting physician to the Buffalo homoeopathic hospital; obstetrician to the Lexington Heights hospital of Buffalo gynecologist and obstetrician to the Oswego hospital; and visiting physician to tlie Oswego orphan asylum and other institutions. Albertson, Nathaniel, congressman, was born in Virginia. In 1849-51 he was a representative from the first congressional district of Indiana to the thirty-first congress as a democrat. Albery, Faxon Franklin Duane, lawyer, author, was born Dec. 3, 1848, in Franklin county, Ohio. Since 1875 he has practiced law in Columbus, Ohio; and since 1886 has been master in chancery. Albright, Andrew, inventor, was born 33, 1831, in Dryden, N.Y. He is the inventor of rubber bound and set brushes, which his firm, the Rubber and celluloid harness trimmings company, manufacture; and also of a great part of the machinery used in manufacturing his inventions.
