Company A . 74th Regiment, w as recruited mostly in Columbia county, fo r one year’s service, in March, 1865, did guard duty along the Baltimore & O hio railroad, and was mus­ tered out at Clarksburg, V a., Aug. 29, 1865. C o n ^ n y B, 103d Regiment, coming mostly fro m Bloomsburg, was mustered into service in the early part o f 1865. and mustered out at N cw bem, N, C.. Ju n e 25, 1865, after a few skirm ishes and lots o f guard duty. Company E, 209th Regiment, w as recruited in Columbia county in 1864 and sent to the front at once, but saw little fighting except at F o rts Steadman and Sedgwick, vmich latter they captured. A fte r railroad work and scout­ in g they were mustered out M ay 3 1, 1865, at A lexand ria, Virginia. Company E, 35th Regiment, 6th Reserves, w a s recruited in Montour county. M ay 14. 18 6 1, and saw service at South Mountain, Fredericksburg, Gettysburg and Spotlsylvania Court House. T hey were mustered out June I t . 1864. with an unstained military record. Battery F, is l A rtillery, 43d Regiment, was recruited in Columbia and Montour counties in 1861 and participated in the engagements at W inchester, Bull Run. Chantilly, Andctam, Fredericksburg, Chancellorsville, Gettysburg, Bristoc Station, Mine Run, Wilderness, Spottsylvania. Cold H arbor and Petersburg. It remained in service till the close of the war. Company G, 52d Regiment, was recruited in Columbia county in 18 6 1, being among the first in (he field and the last out. T hey saw scrvnce in the advance on Richmond, in the battles o f F air O aks and Mechanicsvilte, the assault on Port R oyal, S . C., the attacks on F o rts Johnson and Sumter, and were at R al­ eigh when Johnston surrendered. Th<^ were mustered out at H arrisburg Ju ly 12, 1 ^ 5 . Company D . 84th Regiment, also known as the “ H urley Guards,” was recruited in Co­ lumbia and Montour counties, a few men be­ ing later received from other points. They reached Hancock. cricksburg and Chanccllorsvilte, and the cam­ paign in the Wilderness, down to Petersburg. In t862 they were mustered out, but many of them entered the 57th Regiment, Pennsylvania Volunteers, serving until Ju n e 29, 1865. Sam ­ uel M . Bowman o f Columbia county w as colo­ nel of the 84th Regiment. Company H, 93d Regiment, was composed of the “ Baldy Guards,” recruited in Dan­ ville and n a m ^ from one of the town's prom­ inent citizens. It saw much and arduous serv­ ice, many o f its members being killed and wounded. T hey were in the following enragem ents: Yorktow n, Williamsburg. F a ir O ^ s, M alvcm Hill, Fredericksburg, M aryc’s Heights, Salem Heights. Gettysburg, W ilder­ ness, Spottsylvania. Cold Harbor, Petersburg, Opcquan, Fisher's H ill and Cedar Crcck. On Ja n . 25, 1865, they were mustered out. Cot. Charles W. Eckman, o f Montour county, rose to (he command of the regiment. Company B . 184th Regiment, was recruited in Montour county and joined the A rm y of the Potomac as it crossed the Pamunky river, M ay 28. 1864. T he next day they were in (he bat­ tle o f Tolopotomy creek. A t the battle of Cokt H arbor they lost heavily, and in constant service in the assaults lost 350 men in twentysix days. T hey were continuously in battles and skirmishes until the surrender at Appo­ mattox Court House, and then p articip ate in the grand review at Washington. Company C, 187th Regiment, w as formerly Company D, 1st Battalion, organized fo r six months' service and mustered out Tan. 9, 1864. Upon reenlistment they went to Cold Harbor, arriving there during the battle. L ater they were in all the heavy fighting before Peters­ burg. T hey headed the processioi^ at the burial o f Lincoln, and were mustered out Aug. 2, 1865. at Harrisburg. Battery F, 2d A rtillery, Ii2 th Regiment, w as recruited in Columbia and Montour coun­ ties. T hey garrisoned Washington fo r some time and* then participated in the battles of the Wilderness, Cold H arbor and Petersburg, losing heavily at the famous mine explosionA t Fort H arrison they lost 200 killed and wounded. T hey remained in Virginia after the evacuation o f Petersburg until the end of the war, being discharged at Philadelphia.
