From -the first hospital six nurses were graduated yearly, all o f whom lived in the building; but soon the quarters became overcrow<l<^ and in 19 12 a meeting w as held to secure funds fo r the erection o f a larger building. M uch enthusiasm was aroused in the cam ­ paign fo r funds, and the erection and furnish­ ing of the new hospital became a community a lfa ir in which all classes participated. The .-merican C a r and Foundry Company gave large sum s, workmen gave a day's wages to the fu n d, and the Odd Fellows, Elks, P. O. S. o f .A.. Grinders' Club, Salem Grange, Frances W illard Bible Class of the Methodist Church, and a number o f other organizations, each furnished a room in the hospital, at an average cost o f $ 15 0 . T h e new building w as completed in 19 13 .it a cost o f $28,000. and the old building arandoncd in Jan u ary. 1914. T he building is o f Bloom sburg brick, with limestone trimmings. 97 by 3 7 feel, with two floors, basement and attic. There arc four latgc wards, with a capacity o f thirty beds, ten private rooms, space fo r four cribs fo r children, and rooms for fourteen nurses and hospital help. The training school will educate ten nurses, who will graduate in 19 15 . T he new building is located on Mulbcrr>' .street and Carnctd avenue, in the north end of the town, while the old building was situated on Maple street.
