H e entered the medical profession, graduat ing from Jefferson Medical College, Phibdclphia, and practiced in I.ocust township to the end o f his life. Vastine. as clerk in his store at Numidia, renuining two years, and then engaged with K n o rr & Daniel, successors of the Doctor, fo r six
months. In the spring o f 1885 he took a pceition as clerk with Jaco b Y eager, o f Roaring Creek. Pa., and the follow ing spring was emidoycd in a sim ilar capacity by I., H. Daniel, later becoming manager and conducting the business successfully. H e remained with Mr. Daniel nearly nineteen years. .At that time Ihe mclhoils o f accounting in a country store were very crude and unsatisfactoiy, so Mr. F o x. with keen forcsig^ht, introduced the sys tem o f double entry bookkeeping and com pletely reorganized the meiho<ls o f accounting. -Vfr. F o x has been a Rcptiblican from the time he reachcsl his m ajority and was fre quently a delegate to the county conventions under the form er system o f nominating candiiLatcs. toing a l one time the party's candi date for prolhonolar)-. During a period of thirty-six years he never missed attending an election. Althoiigli living in a three-to-one stronghold of the Democrats, on account of his ability as an accountant he w as elected fo r seven consecutive terms, o f three year* each, an auditor of the township’s financial affairs, toin g unable lo serve, much to hU regret, the last two years, owing lo his re moval from the district. lie was mercantile appraiser o f Columbia county fo r the year of 1 8 ^ . F o r a number o f years he w as one of the Catawissa X ett’S-ltem correspondents, under the nom de plume o f " Jim Nasties." In 1004, when the Catawissa N.ational Bank w as organizcsl. he w as offereel the jiosition of cashier, and he has seen the de]msits o f lh.at institution rise steadily until in this year ( 19 1 4 ) they have reacheil the sum o f $yx>/xx>. a remarkable sum fo r the second hank in a small town.
