Williams was a native of Great Britain, born in 18 3 1 in South Wales, whence he came lo this country with his sister .Anna, whet) he was fourteen years o f age. Settling first at Pottsville, Pa., he there followed the trade o f iron worker, and later came to Dan ville and secured a good position in the mills here. In his latter years he withdrew from active life, and was living retired at the time o f his death. M ay 36. 1899. when he was sixty-eight ^ears o f age. H e w as a veteran of the C ivil war. having served under two enlistments. C)n Sept. 2. 18 6 1, he was mus tered in as a niembcr o f Company H (Capt. M. R . M anley), 6th Regiment. Pennsylvania Rcscrv'es. having enlisted .Aug. 7th. fo r three years' service. He w as di.schargcd at Camp Pierpont. 'a., on account o f physical disa bility. Jan . 8, 1862. H ts second enlistment. Feb. 6. 1864. was in Company F . 187th i’ etmsylvania Regiment, umlcr Capt. John E . R eil ly. for three years, and he was discharged at Harrisl)urg. T^a.. .Aug. 3, 1865. Mr. Williams married Margaret Williams, daughter o f Thomas and Jan e Williams, also Welsh people, and her father was a mill worker. She w as born in Ju n e, 1830, and died Dec. 3 1 . 1897. the mother o f c i ^ t chil dren: Thomas, torn in 1852. died Feb. 13. 1880. while studying medicine; Jo siah, born in 1857. died young: David C. is next in the fam ily: Sarah, born in 1859. died young: John, born in 1863. lives in Butler. Mann, o f Philadelphia: Josiah ( 2 ) . born in 18 7 1, lives in Philadelphia: Elizabeth, horn in 1874. is married to V'alentinc Bierman, o f Philadelphia. David C. W illiams, son o f George W il liams. attendcil public school until he was twelve years o f age. and then entered the Danville Iron W orks, where he was em ployed until 1893. Tn that year he cummenccd following the roofing and slating business, in which he has lieen engaged to the present time, building up an excellent patronage in Danville and the adjoining towns and vil lages. H e is a man u f industry, ability and ]iersevcrancc, and has been able to accom plish a great deal in the btisincss world, dc,scr-ing o f all the more credit in that his suc cess is due entirely to his own efforts. T hey have had no children, but by her first m ar riage. to Norman V an Horn. -Mrs. W illiam s had five: Jennie, now a stenographer in the offices o f •'Collier's W eekly,” at N cw Y o rk City, is married and has a daughter, Kathe rine, bom at Danville (now— 19 14 —thirteen years o ld ) : Nellie, married to Lew is Reick, o f Danville, an iron worker, has three children; William, a barber, of Danville, married G crim dc Snyder, and has one child; A lice is a student in Russell's business college at D an ville; Catherine lives at home. Mrs. W il liams has been a member o f Shiloh Reform ed Church at Danville since 1902. M r. W illiam s is well known among the O dd Fellows, being a member o f Montour lu xlg c. No. 109. o f which he is a past grand, a n d lte has been rei>rescntative to the grand lodge several times. Since 1876 he has licen a nKinlicr of the l>anville fire department, scrxcd one term as its chief, and is at pres ent a trustee. F o r thirty-three years he has lielonged tu the noted musical organization known as the Washington Drum O irps. In ]Militics a Republican, .Mr. Williams w as elect ed sheriff o f Montour county in nxi6, and in t o il was the successful candidate for the office o f county commissioner, in which he at present is scndng with hts customary effi ciency. William HoIIingshc,id, father o f M rs. David C. W'illiams. was torn Ju ly 18. 1827, ill Montour township. Columbia county, son o f Francis and Sarah (R ichards) Hollingshead, farm ing people. H e followed farm ing and lime burning in Cooper township. .Mon tour county, and died Sept. 26, 1 ^ 2, at Bloomsburg. Columbia county. His w ife, Ruphena (S trau sse r), a native o f Berks County. Pa., bom March 18, 182c;. died in .May, 1907. at Danville, Montour county. Sh e was a member o f St. -Matthew’s Lutheran Church.
