It will be seen that it was eminently fit to be a “ Youth’s Magazine,” and the nature of the themes as well as the manner of expression was varied and novel enough to make it attrae- tive. There were interesting scientific papers on the compass, the metals, the steamboat, botany of India, ete., historical accounts of ancient and modern nations, sketches, narratives of travel, notices of England and other countries, and a few essays on the commerce and _ productions of India, all treated in a popular and easy way. The follow- ing selection will serve for a specimen :— বঙ্গভূমির মহাছুর্তিক্ষ, বঙ্গভূমির প্রধান উৎপন্ন বস্ত ধান, তাহার অনেক অন্ত অন্ত দেশে প্রেরিত করা যায়, দৈবাৎ কখন কখন ফসল না জন্মিলে ছুরিক্ষ হয়. এইরূপ দুর্ভিক্ষ বঙ্গভূমিতে ও হিন্দৃস্থানের অন্য অন্ত ভাগে কখন কখন হইরাছিল. সন ১৭৭০ সালে বাঙ্গালা দেশে এইরূপ অতি ঘোর ছুর্ভিক্ষ হইয়াছিল, তংকালে নবাৰ ও অন্ঠান্ত ভাগ্যবান লোকেরা দরিদ্র লোকেরদের মধ্যে অনেক তুল দান করিয়া ছিলেন, কিন্তু শেষে তাহারদের ভাগার শূন্ত হওয়াতে দান নিবৃত্ত হইল. ইহাতে অনেক ছুঃখি লোক জীবনোপায় প্রত্যাশাতে তৎকালীন ইংগ্রণ্তীয়েরদের প্রধান বসতি স্থান কলিকাতায় আইল. কিন্তু তখন কোম্পানীর ভাগারে waists প্রযুক্ত তাহারদের কোন উপায় হইল না. ইহাতে সেই দুর্িক্ষারস্তের ছুই সপ্তাহ পরে সহজ সহজ লোক রাজপথে ও মাঠে স্থানে স্থানে পড়িয়া মরিল. এবং কুকুর ও শকুনিদ্বারা এ সকল মৃতশরীর ছিন্নভিন্ন হওয়াতে বামু অনিষ্টকারী হইল, তাহাতে সকলের ভয় জন্মিল এই দুতিক্ষের পশ্চাৎ মহামারী আসিতেছে. কোম্পানীর প্রেরিত এক শত লোক নিযুক্ত ছিল, তাহারা ডুলি ও ঝোড়াৰ্বারা এ সকল মৃত শরীর
