music 251 one is at a difficulty to believe that it could be used for general instruction, and yet it was expressly designed for the pupils of St. Lorenz, who, together with the pupils of two other schools, had a musical competition each year on the Feast of St. Catherine, in the presence of connoisseurs, and under the guidance of the rector sung through the Mass. Competitions in music were not uncommon in the German schools in the fifteenth century.
