The horse, held by a boy with his back to the spectator, stands in profile to the right. The farrier, wearing a red cap, is busy with a hind-hoof. At the back are three men round the forge. To the right is a horseman. In the left distance is the mouth of a river with sailing-vessels. A good picture of the early period.
