Two peasants sit outside it. In the foreground a man reclines on a bench. Adjoining the inn are sheds and a pump. Panel, 16 inches by 19 inches. In a golden-brown tone. Signed with the monogram, and dated 1640. In the collection of F. H. Wente, Amsterdam. 240. A COTTAGE INTERIOR WITH FIGURES. They sit or stand, drink beer, and smoke. In front a man lights his pipe at an ember which an old woman hands him. Catalogued as by B. Cuyp, whose work it recalls in colour. The figures, however, show that it is by Isack van Ostade.
