In front of a wooden partition on the right a peasant sits on a wooden block, facing the spectator ; his head is leaning back and he is asleep. He wears a light grey jacket and purple and light red breeches. The heel of his right foot rests on a small block, and the toe points upward. His right hand is thrust into his doublet. His left arm rests on a table with the hand hanging down. On the table are a jug and a glass ; another jug is on the floor, and a third hangs on the wall. In the left background are three other peasants carousing. Panel, 14 inches by io| inches.
