Another cow stands on the left in profile to the right, with a sheep, seen from the back, lying down in front of it. On the extreme left is a willow. On the left, past the barn, is a distant view. "A clear tasteful work of art" (Sm.). Signed in full on the left at foot, and dated 1666 ; canvas, 13^ inches by ii| inches. Exhibited at the British Institution, London, 1826-27. Sale. A HERDSMAN MILKING A BROWN COW. The cow stands in front of a thatched cottage. In the left foreground is a cock. The same motive is used in 33 (Kassel). Signed in full ; canvas on panel, 6 inches by 9 inches. In the Mannheim Gallery, 1900 catalogue, No. 197. 100. MILKING-TIME. Sm. 9. On the left a woman milks a cow, which stands in profile to the left and turns its head to the front. On the right, farther back, is a shed ; a boy opens the door and lets out some sheep, while others are already scattered about the meadow. In front of the shed is a tree ; at the left corner of the shed is another tree, with a cow lying down, seen from the back. On the left is a tree, mostly cut off by the frame. In the distance is a wooded hill. On the left two tall and slender trees rise above the rest ; on the right is a big round tower. [Pendant to 69.] Signed ; canvas, 12 inches by 15 inches.
