In the centre of the middle distance is a group of detached cottages amid a few light trees. In front of them a woman feeds poultry. To the left a shepherd drives a flock of sheep forward along a dusty road. The figures and animals are subordinate to the landscape. " A gem of art of the rarest excellence and beauty" (Sm.).
