In the foreground of a spacious wooded landscape with ruins, a herd of cattle, sheep, and goats rest near a small stream. The herdsman sits on a fallen tree, with one foot in the water. Behind them stands another ox, in profile to the left with his head to the front. Be- yond to the right, near some sheep and goats, a shepherdess sits conversing with a herdsman seated on a bank to the right of her. In the middle distance are trees. Blue sky with white clouds.
