She stands behind the sill of an open window ; on this she rests her right hand in which she holds a pair of tongs. She wears a blue dress lined with yellowish brown, with the neck and bosom almost bare. She has fair hair. She turns her head to the left, looking at a charcoal pan which she holds up in her left hand to blow at the embers. Her left elbow rests on a small bench like a chest. In the background is a dark wall with a picture. Signed in full on the left at foot ; canvas, 13^ inches by n inches. What was probably a replica was in the Sales.
