In the centre of a kitchen a pot of soup is simmering on the fire. Near it sits a young woman, holding on her lap an earthenware pan and tasting the soup in a spoon. Behind her is a table with a cover, on which are a willow basket, a bottle, a spoon, and a pestle and mortar. On a shelf on the wall above are books and a torch. Near the table at the back is a pan of cabbages and carrots.
