In the institution of the Holy Supper, when the Lord delivers the bread to His disciples, He uses two terms, Take, eat, (see Matt. xxvi. 26,) the first having reference to the understanding, the second to the will; for, with the understanding, man takes spiritual food, which is the Word of God, or the Lord’s body; and with the will, he feeds upon it, or eats it, by incorporating it into his life.
