Poi his own amusement, and to amuse and mys- tify a few of his fiionds, Mr. Barclay wrote under this signature a Greek version of Richard Henry Wilde's ' My Life Is like the Summer Rose; or, the Lament of the Captive," with a Latin transla- tion, and ascnbed the Greek to Alcseus. It found its way into print in the "Noith Ameri- can Magazine," P. 1834, was decided by Greek scholars to be good Gi eek, and for a time seemed to show that Mr. Wilde had been guilty of gross plagiarism.
