A French poet and journalist ; b.m the old province of Auvergne ; made his debut in literature with a poem in 1838; coming to the United States, and residing in Philadelphia and New York, he devoted himself chiefly to the charge of " The Popular Encyclopaedia " and the "National Encyclopaedia"; afterwards he became editor of "Zell's Monthly Magazine."
