PREFACE.

THE favor accorded the First Series of "Initials and Pseudonyms," both in this country and abroad, has been very gratifying to the compiler.

It is hoped that this supplementary volume, which contains 6500 initials and pseudonyms, answering to 4800 real names, will be received with the same kind consideration. Such a subject, constantly changing and growing, is practically inexhaustible; but strenuous care has been exercised in making the work accurate and as complete as possible. For the kindly assistance given by interested readers, the compiler desires to express his thanks and his assurance that any corrections or supplementary information will be gratefully received.
