Rem. 1. Some other quasi-pronominal expressions are these: (a) Some, several, may be expressed by plur. Gen. 24:55 יָמִים some days (a time); 40:4 (cf. 27:44; 29:20 יָמִים אֲחָדִים a few days). Ez. 38:17. By prep. מִז with noun. Gen. 30:14 give me מִדּֽוּדָאֵי בְנֵךְ some of thy son’s mandrakes. Jer. 19:1 מִוּקְנֵי הָעָם some of the elders. Ex. 17:5, Ps. 137:3, and often in later style.

(b) Any, every by כֹּל. Deu. 16:21 an Ashera כָּל־עֵץ any (kind of) wood. Any one, one, by אישׁ. Gen. 13:16 אִֹם יוּכַלּ אִישׁ if one were able. Anything, דָּבָר, Gen. 18:14. No, none, by לֹא ··· אִישׁ; nothing, לֹא ··· דָּבָר, the neg. placed before the verb. Gen. 45:1 לֹא עָמַד אִישׁ none stood. Hos. 2:12 אִישׁ לֹא יַצִּילֶנָּה none shall deliver her. 2 K. 10:25 אישֹׁ אַל־יֵצֵא let, no one go out. Ex. 16:19. Deu. 2:7 לֹא חָסַרְתָּ דָּבָר thou didst want nothing; 22:26, 2 S. 17:19, 1 K 18:21. Sometimes strengthened by כל, 2 S. 18:13. Cf. Gen. 3:1, thou shalt eat of no tree. Ex. 12:48. The phrase … לֹא מְאוּמָה nothing, 1 S. 12:4, cf. Gen. 22:12.

(c) Thisthat, the onethe other, by זֶה ··· זֶה Is. 6:3 (§ 5), or אֶחָד ··· אֶחָד, Ex. 17:12, 1 K 3:25. One another by אִישׁ ··· אָחִיו or אישׁ ··· רֵעֵהוּ, Gen. 13:11; 11:3, Ex. 16:15; 32:27, Is. 3:5; fem. Ex. 26:3, 5, Ez. 1:23, Is. 34:16.

(d) Each distributively by אִישׁ, Jud. 9:55 וַיּֽלְכוּ אִישׁ לִמְקֹמוֹ Jud. 7:7, 1 S. 8:22; 10:25, 2 S. 6:19, the noun usually sing., but usually plur. with tents, Jud. 7:8 שִׁלַּת אִישׁ לְאֹֽהָלָיו the men of Israel he dismissed, every one to his tents. 1 Sam. 13:2. — Also by אֶחָד Is. 6:2, Jud. 8:18. When אישׁ would be in the gen. it is placed as casus pendens with a retrospective suff. Gen. 42:35 הִנֵּה־אִישׁ צְרוֹר־כַּסְפּוֹ every man’s bundle of money; 15:10; 41:12; 42:25, Nu. 17:17. So Gen. 9:5 מִיַּד אִישׁ אָחִיו at the hand of every man’s brother, unless אישׁ אחיו had become a single expression like one another, and the phrase mean at the hand of one another. Comp. Zech. 7:10 do not plot רָעַת אישׁ אחיו the hurt of one another, cf. 8:17 for the sense.

(e) Such is expressed by כְּ‍ with זֶה or suff. Gen. 44:7 כַּדָּבָר הזה such a thing, כדברים האלה such things. 41:38 כָּזֶה such a one. Jer. 5:9 גּוֹי אשׁר כזה such a nation. Gen. 44:15 אישׁ אשׁר כָּמֹנִי such as I. 2 S. 9:8. — 2 S. 17:15
