Jesus Maria

Our honored Lord, living here as emissary to the King and as chief, we are speaking to Your Honor; having mercy on us, may we be heard.

Now, when our honored lord Benito Ruíz, who is emissary to the King, came here, he spoke to me. “May I be lent some land”, I was told. “Now you have this village that is lived in, and if by your lending I have it, then those people of this village that are in Apalachee will come here to gather, and be made to live in this village." This was said to me, but there was nothing. I thought that there was no fulfillment of those words for me, and I felt no happiness.

And “When the ship of the village of Spain comes, this village of Asile will be yours,” I was told. And, “When I live in San Agustín, you will be assisted with all these: you will be assisted with these axes and hoes”, I was told. And “Every year, clothing for the body will continually be provided to you." I was told this, but there were no white people in this village. I have praised, served, and labored for Your Honor. And by having given me things for the body, having mercy on me, I was provided for. And I thought of these words that had been said, and by that said that they had not been done. I lived here, but by my lord the King's emissary, being wise and living here, humbly, mercy is granted by Your Honor.

Now, it would be known that when Captain Agustín Pérez came here, this was said to me: “It is wanted that you will make the people of Asile gather here", I was told.

"As there is nothing to make them eat, I do not want to make them gather here. And if there is anyone who will go to be of the mountains, it will be because of me," I said to His Honor.

"It is wanted that the village of Asile be a village, per the white man's chief, with you wanting it, or you not wanting it. The village of Asile will be without a village”, was said to me. From fear of His Honor, I said all these words that came to be, but I alone said this.

"All my siblings and my siblings' children and the principal men own this, and I live here owning it and causing it to be had," I said. “And the chiefs own this,”
