HOFCBAPT, Canon William ffamnal, Rector of St John's, Adelaide, since 1895, I and Honorary Canon of St. Peter's Cathedral in that city since 1896 ; o. at Wolverhampton, England, August 25, 1847, and ed. BOFSXHB, Siwinffrton ("Hop" of The Bulletin), caricaturist; 6. Logan Co., Ohio, U.S.A., 1846. He began his career in comic art in New Tork in 1870. For 18 yean prior to coming to Aust he drew for some of the principal journals in America, and he wrote and illustrated a comic History of the United States (Geo. Oarleten). In 1882 he was engaged by The Bulletin, Sydney, and has been ever since connected with this journal, in which he now has a proprietary interest His creations have always been a distinctive feature of The Bulletin. Author of On the Hop (published in 1904, befog a selection of drawings contributed by him to The Bulletin during 20 years). Address—The Bulletin office, Sydney.
BOBDBKsT, Samuel, head of Anthony Hordern & Sons, whose Emporium in Sydney is the largest of the kind in the Commonwealth; b. Sydney, 1848, and is the younger son of the late Anthony Hordern, founder of the firm. His elder brother Anthony dying in 1886, the present extensive business became the sole property of Samuel Horuesm. He has been Commodore of the Prince Alfred Tacht Club, until recently took a leading part in the turf, and owns a stud farm at Wilton Park N.W., stock from which have realised high prices at the annual sales of yearlings.
