committee rose, and Mr. Hascall reported that the committee of the whole had had the said bill under consideration, and instructed him to report progress, and ask leave to sit again.

Leave was accordingly granted.

On motion of Mr. Bacon, the Council resolved itself into a committee of the whole on bill No. 21, to establish branches of the Bank of Michigan and of the Farmers and Mechanics' Bank of Michigan; and, after some time spent therein, the committee rose, and Mr. Stockton reported that the committee of the whole had had the said bill under consideration, and instructed him to report progress, and ask leave to sit again.

Leave was accordingly granted.

Mr. Britain gave notice that he should, on a future day, ask leave to introduce a bill to incorporate the stockholders of the Bank of St. Joseph, and a bill relative to circuit courts.

On motion of Mr. Stockton, the Council proceeded to the consideration of executive business; and, having disposed of the same,

The Council adjourned.

Saturday, February 22, 1834.

Mr. Renwick presented a remonstrance from sundry inhabitants of the township of Saline, in the county of Washtenaw, against any division of that township. Referred to the committee on territorial affairs.

Mr. Renwick presented the accounts of Levi Brown and Ephraim Farnsworth against the Council. Referred to the committee on expenditures.

Mr. Farnsworth presented a remonstrance from sundry inhabitants of township 2, range 12 east, against its separation from Shelby. Laid on the table.

Mr. Millington presented a petition from the township board of the township supervisors, in the county of Washtenaw, in favor of altering the name of said township to that of Panama. Referred to the committee on territorial affairs.

On motion of Mr. Farnsworth,

Resolved, That the judiciary committee be instructed to inquire into the expediency of repealing the act entitled "An act for the relief of poor debtors imprisoned for debt," approved the 20th of April, 1833, and of reviving the act entitled "An act for the relief of insolvent debtors," approved 12th of April, 1827, together with the subsequent acts passed amendatory thereto.

Mr. Doty, from the committee on incorporations, reported

A bill concerning the bank of River Raisin.

Mr. Martin, from the committee on the judiciary, reported

A bill to amend the act entitled "An act concerning costs and fees."

The foregoing bills were severally read the first time.
