Christ's prayer to his Father.
S. JOHN.
Judas betrayeth his master.

3 And [1] this is life eternal, that they might know thee [2] the only true God, and Jesus Christ, [3] whom thou hast sent.

4 [4] I have glorified thee on the earth: [5] I have finished the work [6] which thou gavest me to do.

5 And now, O Father, glorify thou me with thine own self with the glory [7] which I had with thee before the world was.

6[8] I have manifested thy name unto the men [9]which thou gavest me out of the world: thine they were, and thou gavest them me; and they have kept thy word.

7 Now they have known that all things whatsoever thou hast given me are of thee.

8 For I have given unto them the words [10] which thou gavest me; and they have received them, [11] and have known surely that I came out from thee, and they have believed that thou didst send me.

9 I pray for them: [12] I pray not for the world, but for them which thou hast given me; for they are thine.

10 And all mine are thine, and [13] thine are mine; and I am glorified in them.

11 [14] And now I am no more in the world, but these are in the world, and I come to thee. Holy Father, [15] keep through thine own name those whom thou hast given me, [16] that they may be one, [17] as we are.

12 While I was with them in the world, [18] I kept them in thy name: those that thou gavest me I have kept, and [19] none of them is lost, [20] but the son of perdition; [21] that the scripture might be fulfilled.

13 And now come I to thee; and these things I speak in the world, that they might have my joy fulfilled in themselves.

14 [22] I have given them thy word; [23] and the world hath hated them, because they are not of the world, [24] even as I am not of the world.

15 ¶ I pray not that thou shouldest take them out of the world, but [25] that thou shouldest keep them from the evil.

16 [26] They are not of the world, even as I am not of the world.

17[27] Sanctify them through thy truth: [28] thy word is truth.

18 [29] As thou hast sent me into the world, even so have I also sent them into the world.

19 And [30] for their sakes I sanctify myself, that they also might be ‖‖ Or, truly sanctified. sanctified through the truth.

20 ¶ Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through their word;

21 [31] That they all may be one; as [32] thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me.

22 And the glory which thou gavest me I have given them; [33] that they may be one, even as we are one:

23 I in them, and thou in me, [34] that they may be made perfect in one; and that the world may know that thou hast sent me, and hast loved them, as thou hast loved me.

24 [35] Father, I will that they also, whom thou hast given me, be with me where I am; that they may behold my glory, which thou hast given me: [36] for thou lovedst me before the foundation of the world.

25 O righteous Father, [37] the world hath not known thee: but [38] I have known thee, and [39] these have known that thou hast sent me.

26 [40] And I have declared unto them thy name, and will declare it: that the love [41] wherewith thou hast loved me may be in them, and I in them.

CHAP.XVIII.

1 Judas betrayeth Jesus: the officers and soldiers at Christ's word fall to the ground: 10 Peter cutteth off Malchus' ear: 12 Jesus is led bound to Annas and Caiaphas: 15 Peter denieth him: 19 Jesus is examined by the high priest, and struck by one of the officers: 25 Peter denieth him the second and third time: 28 Jesus brought before Pilate, and examined, confesseth his kingdom not to be of this world: Pilate testifying his innocence, and offering to release him, the Jews prefer Barabbas.

WHEN Jesus had spoken these words, [42] he went forth with his disciples over [43] the brook Cedron, where was a garden, into the which he entered, and his disciples.

2 And Judas also, which betrayed him, knew the place: [44] for Jesus ofttimes resorted thither with his disciples.

3 [45] Judas then, having received a band of men and officers from the chief priests and Pharisees, cometh thither with lanterns and torches and weapons.

4 Jesus therefore, knowing all things that should come upon him, went forth, and said unto them, Whom seek ye?

5 They answered him, Jesus of Nazareth. Jesus saith unto them, I am he. And Judas also, which betrayed him, stood with them.

6 As soon then as he had said unto them, I am he, they went backward, and fell to the ground.
